The Simple, or Oriental
For your everyday look, this stays tidy and is fast to achieve. The smaller knot leaves more length, so works especially well for tall men or those with thicker necks.• With the backside of the tie facing out, loop the wide end of the tie under the narrow end and back across.
• Pull the wide end through, then over the neck loop
• Thread through the middle loop and pull to tighten
The Four-in-Hand
Slim-line and asymmetrical, the Four-in-Hand works well with button-down shirts. The longer knot looks good on everyone, but works especially well at offsetting shorter necks.
• Take the wide end and fully encircle the narrow end – cross over, then under, then back over again
• Pull the wide end through, then over the neck loop
• Thread it through the middle loop and pull to tighten
The Half Windsor
This is a medium-size, nearly symmetrical knot, and gives an effortlessly elegant touch.
• Loop the wide end over and around the narrow end, then through and over neck loop, down to the left
• Loop it over to the right, then through and over the neck, loop down to the middle
• Thread it through the middle loop and pull to tighten
The Full Windsor
This wide, symmetrical knot works best with a spread collar.
• Place the wide end over the narrow end to the left, then through and over neck loop, down to the left
• Circle it around the back of the narrow end to the right, then through the neck loop and down to the right.
• Cross to it over the front to the left, then up through neck loop.
• Thread the wide end through the middle loop, then pull to tighten.
